Brief History

Chelsea are a relatively new club and among a select few who were formed in the 20th century. They played their first game in 1905 and have been based in the Stamford Bridge area of West London for their entire existence. A promotion to the old English first division came in their second ever season and Chelsea have been around the top flight ever since. Relegations have been part of life at times but the club have been an ever present in the new Premier League and it’s unlikely we will see them drop down for many years – if at all.

Prior to that Premier League era, trophies were won on a sporadic basis with a first division title in 1955 and their first ever FA Cup win in 1970. Before the English leagues were re-organised, Chelsea’s most notable triumph came with a European Cup Winners Cup victory in 1970/71.

Strongest Period

Chelsea enjoyed some success prior to the start of the Premier League in the early 1990’s but undoubtedly they have really grown as a club in the last 20 years. The arrival of Billionaire owner Roman Abramovich gave various managers the type of transfer funding that others could only dream about and they therefore could purchase the best players around with the highest fees and biggest salaries.

The club won their first Premiership title under Jose Mourinho and in addition to the first division championship that they won back in the 1950’s, they have taken the top flight crown on five separate occasions by the start of the 2017/18 campaign.

They took the Champions League title in 2012 and have won six FA Cups since 2000, the most recent of which came with victory over Manchester United in 2018 so there is no doubt that Chelsea’s Golden Period is taking place right now.

Recent Record

Chelsea’s performances in major competitions over the last few seasons are documented below:

There’s no doubt that 2015/16 was a poor season for the club but with Antonio Conte taking over at the helm, he immediately transformed the team into title winners the following season. Unfortunately for the Italian, he wasn’t able to replicate that success in 2017/18 and like many before him, he paid the price.

With Maurizio Sarri taking over the manager’s job at the beginning of the 2018/19 campaign, Chelsea fans are hoping to be back at the top very soon and as they continue to go deep into most competitions, they will be the focus of many bookmakers’ enhanced odds offers and price boost promotions moving forward.

Key Players

With Diego Costa having left the club, Chelsea’s main striking hopes lie with Spanish international Alvaro Morata. The 2017/18 season wasn’t the most productive for the former Real Madrid and Juventus man as he finished with just 11 league goals from 32 matches. New manager Sarri may rely more heavily on Pedro so we may also see his name being mentioned while Eden Hazard is the most potent goal scoring threat from midfield.

If Morata continues to misfire, Olivier Giroud may become a more regular starter for the Blues and any of these players may well feature in price boost offers across the season.

There are attacking options across the pitch so if you see any combined price boosts, they may well list Chelsea to win and over the 3.5 goal line. Alternatively, you may also find a whole host of these that are tailored around any of these players in the individual goal scorer betting.

With Chelsea winning the title twice since 2014/15, supporters of the club will be hoping that manager Maurizio Sarri can bring success once again after a disappointing end to Antonio Conte’s tenure.

From a betting perspective, Chelsea are a club that are expected to perform well in all competition, both at home and in Europe, and this will undoubtedly lead to a great number of enhanced Chelsea offers in the months and years that lie ahead.
