It’s inevitable that when a new manager joins a football club, he’s going to have his own ideas in terms of playing personnel. Over at Arsenal, we’ve already seen one fans’ favourite leave as Jack Wilshere crossed London to West Ham and after much speculation, it’s been confirmed that Aaron Ramsey will be next.

The Welsh midfielder joined the club from Cardiff City back in 2008 but as the Unai Emery revolution starts to take hold at the Emirates, the club has announced that he will not be offered a new contract when his current deal runs out in the summer.

The bookmakers have felt that for some time that Aaron Ramsey would be moving away from Arsenal, possibly as early as the January window so the question now is not ‘if’ but ‘where’.

As for the clubs concerned, the majority of sides named in the gossip columns are based in the English Premier League and the names concerned are all available in the soccer transfer odds markets for a Ramsey move. There’s no shortage of suggestions either with Liverpool and Manchester United seemingly in the frame while Everton and even Spurs have been mentioned. A move to bitter rivals Tottenham would not please Gunners fans but there is some support for this theory in the player transfers odds markets that are available.

The Favourites

The latest transfer odds continue to shorten on a move to Liverpool who are favourites to be Aaron Ramsey’s next club at odds of 5/2 with Ladbrokes. As is often the case with this type of market, Ladbrokes are one of the only bookmakers to show their hand and they also have the best prices right now.

Alternatives to favourites Liverpool include the Italian pairing of AC Milan at 3/1 and Juventus at 7/2. English clubs then take over with Manchester United at 4/1 and Chelsea at 7/1 while the player transfer odds on a switch to Everton will interest some at a tempting 12/1.

Completing the Ladbrokes options are West Ham at 14/1 and Southampton at 16/1 while a return to his old club Cardiff is available at 50/1.

There is another bookmaker who is offering transfer odds on which country Aaron Ramsey will be playing in after the next transfer window and there are a range of prices in this respect. The favourites are any Italian club and any English club which are at 6/1 while all others are at 12/1.

That’s an alternative but we think we can possibly pin this one down and get a higher price from the figures that Ladbrokes have given us.

The Reality

Aaron Ramsey’s current contract expires at the end of the season and after months of speculation, it’s now been confirmed by the club that it will not be renewed. Arsenal are therefore faced with the prospect of the player leaving on a free at the end of the 2018/19 campaign so this is one deal that could go through in January.

The fee wouldn’t be that exciting however so it is possible that Ramsey may run down the clock and leave next summer but we think that’s unlikely.

Verdict

Ladbrokes seem to have dismissed rumours of a move to Spurs and we’ll quickly do that too. Tottenham haven’t been averse to signing players from their North London rivals in recent years but they simply don’t seem to have any vacancies in midfield right now.

It’s a similar situation at Liverpool but, the Reds do have an issue in midfield due to the long term injury suffered by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. A former teammate of Ramsey’s at Arsenal, Chamberlain has been ruled out for the remainder of the season and that’s one of the reasons why the Merseyside club are the new favourites for the player’s signature.

Liverpool do, however, have a wide set of options in attacking midfield with plenty of goals coming from behind their main striker Mohamed Salah.

Elsewhere, Manchester United look to be an interesting alternative and this is a club where plenty of transfer deals may take place in January. The priority for the club is to sort out a shaky defence but with rumours persisting over Jose Mourinho’s future at Old Trafford, a new manager could come in and bring along a whole host of new signings. Talk of a swap deal with Ramsey and Juan Mata has hit the headlines and there is a precedent with Alexis Sanchez and Henrikh Mkhitaryan last winter.

Aaron Ramsey doesn’t look ready for a relegation battle with his old club Cardiff City just yet but the Italian teams that are mentioned both have qualities that would attract him and, there is a new set of press talk that puts Juventus firmly in the frame.

As a slight outsider, the 12/1 latest football transfer odds on a switch to Everton really interests us: The blue half of Merseyside have been big spenders over each of the last two seasons but they haven’t quite got their mix of players right and there are yet more vacancies at Goodison Park.

There is a precedent here too with Theo Walcott having previously switched from Everton to Liverpool. He’s a quality player but is he really needed at the top four clubs? We think the answer to that question is no and while this is a punt, Aaron Ramsey seems a perfect fit for a team such as Everton who are outside of the elite but have ambitions to break in to the Champions League places.

Best Bets:

  • Everton to be Aaron Ramsey’s next permanent club at 12/1 with Ladbrokes
